work phases
These are the general stages when working on a project. But the way they're done is up to everyone involved! You will create a process together tailored to your access practices.
initial meet
This is where you get to know each other. Go through the project outline, budget, timelines and desires. Not sure how to prepare for the meeting? Jess will do an access check before you connect.
Some accessible options: Video or audio virtual meetings. Jess uses Google Meet but is open to platforms. Email or messaging instead of virtual meetings. Breaks or scheduling a few shorter sessions for fatigue. Setting up screen recording or Otter transcripts.
brief + work process
After your chat, Jess will prepare the contract agreement [unless you have one ready]. It will include the project brief, assets, schedule, estimate and payment plan. You approve by signing the contract, then the work begins! Assets are the designs or services created for the project. Jess uses Adobe Sign for signatures. Please let her know if you prefer a method more accessible to you.
concepts + working stage
Stages vary depending on the scope of work. Brands have one concept with some revisions before the final assets. Websites use a wireframe, and approvals during development. Illustrations start with rough sketches and colours before the vector stage. Edits are continual until clients get what they need [within the contract].
Jess presents work stages in meetings for visual/audio learners. Then goes over edits together. For tactile learners Jess can send documents with thorough descriptions. Then get written feedback for edits.
final approval + assets
Jess sends a final preview for approval before building assets. For brands this is a draft of the guide. If the client is happy, Jess creates all files and templates in a compressed file. Websites on working servers need approval before launching. Illustrations use clean raster drawings as the preview before making vector files.
project end + invoice
Project wrap up involves a transfer of assets for payment. Files get sent with an invoice. While valuing her work, Jess is hyper-aware of financial barriers. She uses adaptable payment methods. Prices differ based on business size, budget and supports. Jess works with you to create a fair agreement together. Instalments and creative options are available.
Current pay methods are e-transfer, PayPal, bank wires, cash or cheque. Jess is in Canada without access to Venmo, CashApp or other money services. GST/HST apply for Canadian projects.
